Trip to Rome and Amalfi Coast - where to stay?

I am planning a trip to Rome in the end of July. We'll be staying in Rome for 4 days and then going to Amalfi Coast. I am looking for recommendations on a good hotel in Rome (close to metro stations and main attractions). Also, since we will be traveling by car from Rome to Amalfi coast for three days and then coming back to Rome to fly back home, I am looking to stay somewhere in a middle of the Amalfi coast so it would be convenient to travel during those 3 days.
