Where to stay instead of Positano on Amalfi Coast?

Ok so I'm booking a little trip to the Amalfi Coast. I have booked a few nights in Sorrento and wanted to stay two nights in Positano as I've heard it's beautiful but am finding the accommodation is going to be over my budget for anything decent. There are a couple of places within my budget but the reviews for them are so so SO bad I don't even want to chance it!



I figured I could do a day trip to Positano from another place anyway and instead stay somewhere in another town nearby getting more quality for my money. I'm thinking either Amalfi, Praiano or Ravello, but not sure of which one, as a must see out of the three and also close enough to do a day trip to Positano???



Any recommendations from past travellers would be so very much appreciated!! (=Where to stay instead of Positano on Amalfi Coast?

Praiano is closer and is even more charming! You shuld to see the Praiano fire shows, in Praiano square.



Positano is very expencive, brings a bottle of water with you and sandals for the stones beaches, the stones are very hot and hurt your feet.

When you go to Positano, don't carry too heavy bags because to reach "No pay beach" you have to walk (on you food) because it's pedestrian zone.

never stayed there, but did stay in naples and did day trips down that way. that might be a nice way to go if you want to save a buck. also google couchsurfing....you can find great deals that way (sometimes free)



pompei isn't too far from there, you should check it out!

also capri is nearby and well worth a trip
