I'm travelling to Italy for 3 weeks and am keen on the south. Suggestions of where and for how long in each?

I definately want to visit the Amalfi coast as well as naples but don't really know much else about the other cities / towns. I will be travelling by train - will this limit me? I'm just looking for some good places to visit and an estimation of how many days i should spend in each place? Any help would be useful :)I'm travelling to Italy for 3 weeks and am keen on the south. Suggestions of where and for how long in each?
I will choose the Adriatic side is far better than Amalfi coast for sure less expensive with stunning views. Go to Apulia from Gargano to Santa Maria di Leuca and Stop close to Otranto and Lecce and along the Ionian side as well, close to Gallipoli...you will understand what I meaning...you could visit as well Alberobello and Castellana Grotte (between Bari and Brindisi) you won't regret for sure and all these places are easily reached by train, lots of trains go in those directions. I think you could need at least 10 days to enjoy the most of all but if you got more days to spend you could also visit Castel del Monte (close to Andria) and the cathedral of Trani

xChristian shut up that hole you are telling lie and you know it very well!...the Adriatic coast is not only Rimini and is much much clearer and CLEANEST of your piece in front of the gulf of Naples with those tiny dark beaches!...I would not ever put myself in that toxic water ever! So shut up adriatic sea is something wonderful you are an envious liar....
truly you should visit the adriatic side rather than the amalfi coast, for a number of reasons. The adriatic side has many more useable beaches, whereas the amalfi is much more rocky than the adriatic. another reason would be for costs, the adriatic side has much better deals and there is such close proximity to mountains and sea.

research places such as Pescara which is in the abruzzo region. The beaches are well developed and there is lots to do along the waterfront. There is also an airport there which is good because rather than driving from rome, you can take a connector flight to Pescara.

Other good places to research on the adriatic side would be Ancona or San Benedetto del Tronto or Pesaro in Le Marche, which are also very beautiful and scenic, as well as much more economical.

most of all, the food in these two regions is delicious.I'm travelling to Italy for 3 weeks and am keen on the south. Suggestions of where and for how long in each?
When you are in Naples take the boat to the Isle of Capri , then take a bus to Anacapri and when the bus stops in the Piazza Vittoria go to my cousins shop The L'Trio Oggetti d'Arte then go to my other cousins boutique La Piaxxetta on the Via Axel Munthe . You tell them that their cousin Tony from Brooklyn told you about them and they will greet you in a very friendly manner . Have a great time in Italy .
Don't go to the Adriatic side, 'cause the sea isn't so beautiful as the amalfi coast. Naples is a wonderful city, and if u can visit Ischia and Capri, but u have to take the boat, u can't go there by train, 'cause they are islands =)! than u can visit the Reggia di Caserta, and u can go there by train. That's all! Enjoy your travel!!!
La Magna Grecia = Sicily

Go to Sicily or if you have to stay on the peninsula then Puglia.

I would do Sicily. The Nepolitian coast has great views but once up close (I suppose like much of Southern Italy) things are dirty. And in the Naples area the water just ain't clean.

Sicily has a much more intresting history, better swimming water and a bigger varity of foods and wines than Naples. Hey, the city of Naples is worth visiting and the people there are great... but I would maybe stay 2 or three days and lave before you get ripped off.
