Going on holiday to Italy, what's the cheapest way to call back home?

We are really looking forward to our holiday on the Amalfi Coast but as you can imagine we'll want to call home to speak to our family and friends, what is the cheapest way to do make the calls?

Thanks in advance for your answersGoing on holiday to Italy, what's the cheapest way to call back home?
We just returned from Italy. The Amalfi Coast is amazing! We purchased an international phone card at the airport for 10 euros (about $14). We got about 40 minutes with it I think.

Whatever you do, don't call collect! The person you call will end up paying $2-3 per minute!

You can also use the standard payphones and dial international - the rates aren't that bad.

To call the US dial 001+Area Code + Number
Cheapest is to use a through-the-internet service like www.skype.com

However, for that you need a computer, headset w/microphone, and a high-speed connection.

Simplest inexpensive way is to buy prepaid phone cards and call home from pay phones.Going on holiday to Italy, what's the cheapest way to call back home?
