Don't miss the Amalfi coast which you will go through on your journey to Pompeii. One day is usually enough.

But the best and most memorable place to go in this area is Capri, an island off the coast of Naples. You can get a tour that includes, the boat ride to and from Naples as well as a guided tour in the beautiful and nostalgic city of Capri. But the best thing to see is the famous Blue Grotto. To get there, you will take a boat from the city around to the Grotto entrance. Then you will transfer to small boats holding only two people in addition to the boatman. Your boatman is skilled and will pull you through the small opening at just the right time. Once inside you will experience a feeling like you have never had before. It will be as if you are suspended in this dark cavern with the light coming up from underneath and silouetting everything in shades of blue. It is almost a religious experience.
I don't know that much about Naples, but probably spend a day there. Amalfi coast you'll want to spend two days at. Maybe three. Capri is really nice and that'll take up a good portion of the day. Sorrento is also nice. Pompeii is right in the area, I enjoyed that, but its not for everyone. So stay three or four nights in the area before heading to Rome.Trip to italy - have 7.5 days.
