We are due to go on holiday to Sorrento this year and have heard that the beaches there are made of black volcanic sand or pebbles. with it being a volcanic area nearly all the beaches from naples down to calabria are black or pebbles...
if i remember rightly the beches at paestum are yellow... i always go to the beach at maratea... ideal for snorkling

no the sand is yellow in this part of italy, there are few places with white sand... enjoy italy, i'm italian
