In my experience - Sorrento and Positano, but hey, it's all good. Lucky you!
Locals are very friendly, food is great - no excellent. Nightlife depends on when you are going - summer is always more hectic. Although it should be noted that the most social gatherings happen in the restaurants.
Hotels I would recommend are the Desiree hotel in Sorrento or the Bristol Hotel - http://www.romanlife-romeitaly.com/conca鈥?/a> both with fantastic views, food and service.

Amalfi Coast is fantastic. Hiring a scooter is the best way to do it. We stayed in Sorrento but next time i go, I would stay in Positano. I am not a pastry lover but the cannollies in Postiano are the best!Where to stay on the amalfi coast in italy?
Sorrento is nice. I suggest Casa Astarita or Hotel Mignon. Both are owned by the same people, reasonably priced, and the rooms are bright and large...some with patios/balconies. I don't know much about the night life.
Go and see George Clooneys house!
