From Rome, you can easily reach Amalfi by train: you should change in Napoli and Salerno or just in Salerno (which is very near to Amalfi), according to schedule; or you can take a bus in Salerno for all resort on Amalfi coast.
I go to Capri every year, which is an island close to Sorrento, etc. My husband and I usually take the train from Rome Termini station to Napoli Centrale. The port is a short distance from the train terminal in Napoli. From there, you can take a ferry to any of the islands.
The train ride from Rome to Napoli takes a few hours, so I prefer to take the Eurostar - it's more expensive, but faster and nicer seats, including assigned seating. There's plenty of room for your luggage, and you can buy your tickets at the terminal. The ferries run very regularly for most of the day - but I would suggest trying to get down there early. We prefer to go to Mergellina station, but I'm not sure how often the ferries run from there. If you have any questions, you can contact the hotel directly. Most hotels in that area will make all the travel arrangements on request and charge it directly to the room.Exlporing Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast in Italy...?
Use the train!
