I have looked at staying at either the Wailea Beach Marriott or the Grand Wailea, however my mom gave me the names of the Outrigger and Aston Kaanapali. We will be going with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend ...and then myself, husband and 18 month old daughter...Where should we stay and why??How is the outrigger palms or the Aston Kaanapali Shores in maui?
I know a lot about Kaanapali Shores. I helped build it, then worked there for two years. There are three floors, and I believe five floor plans. They are all designed as condo units, while being a resort hotel. Each unit has a kitchen, and a lanai to sit out on. Some units have more of an ocean view than others. The condo units are arranged like a half circle, and in the middle of the property is a nice swimming pool, and a water-fall, and shallow man made stream. Also available is a sauna room, and tiny health spa.
There are several tennis courts, for use, as well as lessons. The local staff are really nice, friendly, and can help you choose activities you may enjoy---no different than most Maui properties. There are other hotels next door in both directions. Cost is something you need to investigate.
The Grand Wailea is breath taking. The grounds are much, much larger. The water features, and pools are hands down much better---but at a cost. Personally, I would see which is cheaper, rent a car, and go to both sides of the island for the beaches. I love the Kihei beaches and the Wailea Beaches over the Lahaina--Kaanapali Beaches. But that is my opinion, I lived there for 13 wonderful years. How is the outrigger palms or the Aston Kaanapali Shores in maui?
My parents stayed at the Aston at the Maui Banyan (in Kihei) and they really like it. I think they are pretty much like condos. When I went we stayed at the Maui Coast Hotel (in Kihei also). I loved it! There are no views out the windows but we hardly stayed in the room. The lobby was open air and nice. Very clean. But probably nothing compared to the Grand Wailea. But I am very picky so it is a good option for a lower priced hotel! Wailea is beautiful though, but so is the rest of Maui! and my favorite beach on Maui so far is Makena (specifically Big Beach)! Hope this helped! Good luck and have fun!
