in italy and then we want to finish off with a eastern mediterranean cruise.. covering venice and greece. Please any ideas on where I should start and how I go about the traveling.I have a little less than 18 days in europe and would like to visit barcelona, paris most of the amalfi coast?
There's a list of cruises from Venice here: http://www.cruisecompete.com/vacations/d鈥?/a> The cruises take 7 or more nights which will take a significant portion of your time. They also only sail on specific dates so you'll want to plan travel dates to make the cruise if you really want to include all of these things. Since the places you're trying to see are pretty wide-spread, you'll be doing a lot of travel.
You can find information on budget flights here: http://www.skyscanner.it/ or http://www.whichbudget.com/ . In addition to RyanAir from Beauvais airport, EasyJet and Air Europa have cheap flights to Barcelona from Charles De Gaulle airport and Vueling flies to Barcelona from Orly airport. There is also the option of an overnight train leaving Paris Austerlitz station at 8:34 pm and arriving in Barcelona at 9:09 am. If you do this, you don't have to deal with transfers to and from airports, getting to the airport early to check-in and get through security, or waiting forany checked bags on arrival. Plus, you can sleep through the night while you travel. http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.s鈥?/a>
If you want to go to the Amalfi Coast, don't fly into Rome, fly into Naples which is much closer. Either Spanair or Vueling have budget flights from Barcelona. The Naples airport website is here: http://www.portal.gesac.it/portal/page/p鈥?/a> . There are buses from the airport to Sorrento where you can change to a bus or boat along the Amalfi coast or you can take the bus into the city and take the Circumvesuviana train from Piazza Garibaldi to the Sorrento.
You can check the site above for flights to Venice or take the train from Naples to Venice. http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepag鈥?/a> Note that it is only a 5.5 hr trip from Naples to Venice including a train change (usually in Rome). The fast trains have cut travel times here significantly. Another option is to take the night train from Naples to Venice. It takes longer, but much of the travel time is time you would be sleeping anyway and you save on the cost of a hotel for the night. The train leaves Naples at 7:57 pm and arrives in Venice at 5:26 the next morning. http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepag鈥?/a>
Well, you can start off in Paris and stay there for 3-4 days before catching a budget flight to Spain. if you are flying with ryanair, you will have to go to Beauvais Airport, you have to buy a bus ticket which cost 13 euros for one wayas there are no alternative and you will not want to take a taxi from Paris. The nearest metro to the bus station to Beauvais Airport is Pont De Neuilly (Line 1-Yellow). It is oppopsite a hotel (i forgot the name of the hotel). There will be a small booth there and you can see the price. Buses departs every hour and the journey will take noe hour or so.
The plane will touch down at Girona, which is one hour by bus from Barcelona. You can spend about 2 days in Girona before going by bus to Barcelona. The bus journey from Girona airport to Girona city centre is only 25mins. The bus station is opposite the train station where you can take a train to Barcelona as well. From Barcelona, you can catch a budget flight to Rome (you have to go back to Girona to catch the flight). It is only 1 hr and you can take a bus from the Fiumicino airport in Rome to the city centre. you can in fact by the bus ticket at Girona Airport.
The bus from Fiumicino airport wil take you to the city centre where it will stop at Roma termini (bus station). From there you can ask the travel agency located there around for the med cruise or take a train from Roma Termini to Venezia (Venice), which takes 5 hours.
Hope it will help you.I have a little less than 18 days in europe and would like to visit barcelona, paris most of the amalfi coast?
I recommend that you fly in to Paris. Have a couple days there.
Get a budget ticket to fly from Paris to Barcelona. From there take a plane to Rome.
From Venice you can finish off with the cruise you want.
Spend 3-4 days at each location. For Barcelona, I can recommend you a pretty good website: PromptGuides.com. They offer free, preplanned city guides optimized for 1, 3 and 5 days. So at least you don't have to plan what to do there. Use the following link: http://www.promptguides.com/barcelona/gu鈥?/a>
Hope it helps. Have a great time in Europe.
