Where do I keep my pack during the day while backpacking Europe?

Okay, I am starting my planning of backpacking Europe and have experience backpacking in the states fairly light and on foot. When I want to visit inner city sites and do not want to carry my pack where can I store it safely? Are there lockers or what not? I would like to try some of the long distance foot paths for some travel and then the eurorail for other travel. Can you camp along the long footpaths? I think they are E1-E8? I will use hostels sparingly, I plan ot camp/couch surf/etc. to save money, budget is not a huge issue but I prefer to stay on the ground and enjoy being frugal. I have been doing my research and most sites on the web seem a bit touristy to me, any suggestions? I have 10 months to plan so any advice?Where do I keep my pack during the day while backpacking Europe?
About your pack, you can store it in lockers, you can find the lockers in almost all the train stations of Europe, the cost depends on the locker's size and the city, but you will spend an average of 5 euros per day.

About camping i know there are facilities for that in some cities, but doesn't know how it works.
