Is 2,000 USD enough for hostels and spending money for 2 month backpack trip through europe?

I already have my eurorail pass and plane tickets booked. I will be backpacking throughout europe and will be traveling at night time saving money and sleeping on the trains.......Obviously I will not be able to spend the whole time on the train and will need to stay in hostels. I was wondering if $2,000 USD is enough money to use for 2 months backpacking through Europe alone?? If not, how much money would you think I would need. My friend who went to Europe several times told me that it seems possible especially if all I am doing is sightseeing and eating cheaply, only going to supermarkets for food and eating vender food, no nice restaurants......Any help is appreciated.....I plan on going through the following countries, cities,

1. Lisbon, Portugal

2. Madrid and Barcelona (Spain)

3. Paris, France

4. London, United Kingdom

5. Brussels, Belgium

6. Amsterdam, Netherlands

7. Berlin and Munich and Frankfurt, Germany

8. Warszawa, Poland

9. Prague, Czech RepublicIs 2,000 USD enough for hostels and spending money for 2 month backpack trip through europe?
I budget that amount PER MONTH - minimum. If you're going all that way you want to be able to do things and go places so I would either suggest cutting the time short or trying to get more money!
NO!!

I went to Europe for a month and took $2000. And I ran out of money.

If you don't want to carry a lot of cash on you, make sure you have a debit or credit card that will work abroad.

Also, even though you think you will be eating cheaply, in some countries ie: England, France, food is very expensive.

I would bring more than $2000.00, better to have more than less!

have a good tripIs 2,000 USD enough for hostels and spending money for 2 month backpack trip through europe?
About 9 years ago I spent $1000 on a month-long trip to Ireland. This included the plane ticket. You will probably want to look up current money-exchange rates for these different countries, that will help give you an idea of how far your dollar would go. I'd also recommend joining some travel forums for more info. A good one would probably be http://www.backpackeurope.com/. Good luck and have fun!
If you are backpacking, then I think it probably is enough as long as you are eating food from small vendors and from grocery stores.

Just spend cautiously up front, the worst thing that can happen is running out of money in eastern Europe....
Yes, basically your budget for $2000 for two month is $33 a day, which is definitely doable. Just make sure if you spend more one day to make up for it the next and you should be okay.
Not if George Bush keeps lowering interest rates and raising gas prices.
Not even close. The exchange rate is horrible and that amount will last three weeks, four tops, IF you're lucky.
the strength of the dollar is very poor .my advice is stay at home better luck next year
nope
2,000 is a good start, but I would really recommend trying to save upwards of 3,500. It's better to have too much than not enough.
not even close,

you'll need about 4 times that

london will chew huge amounts of money, so will austria, amsterdamn, germany, infact all of the eu will rape your pocket
When you go to Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Prague you're going to want more money than that because of all the stuff there is to do in those places. I also probably don't need to remind you of the conversion rate. It's out of this world right now! Besides, I also think you will need more money because you never know what kind of mishap you're going to run into and money can always bail you out of a sticky situation, so I would try to play it safe and take another grand with me. At least. Because you're only getting half of your money, y'know? But I'm not one to really talk. I'm going to Amsterdam and Frankfurt in a couple of days and I don't have that much cash either! Regardless, try to get more cash but don't NOT go because of the money - you already got your tickets and europass and stuff so maybe you can just rough it for the second month.
Personally I would want more spending money, you will be visiting amazing cities and places and may want extra for souvenirs. Plus, the hostile cost can vary, do you have reservations? Most hostiles can run from $8 - $100 a night depending on how nice they are and if you get your own room. Food cost should be figured and you are probably going to want to indulge in the great food over there as well. I would say $4,000 would be enough spending money for 2 months.

Oh and can I come, too? J/k

Have fun, even if you only bring the 2000, I think you'll get by.
$2,000 for 2 months (60 days) equals $33 per day. You will lose a percentage of that amount on the exchanges because you have to change money into several different currencies (pounds, euro, etc.). If you figure you will lose 5 percent on exchange costs (this is a conservative number), you are down to $1900, or $31.67 per day. If you figure that your hostel costs will average $25 per night and not include breakfast, that leaves you with $6.67 for all your food, sightseeing, etc. Groceries are more expensive in Europe than in the US, and you will not have a kitchen, so you will be limited in food choices. For a 2 month trip, you will also need to do laundry, and laundromats are very expensive in Europe. Although sleeping on a train sounds like it will save you money, if you don't spend the extra money to reserve a seat, you could be "sleeping" standing up. If you want the luxury of a 6 person sleeper car, that usually costs as much as a hostel. I would say you need to look at more than doubling that amount of money if you want to do any sightseeing. Museums and attractions in Europe are not free, and although the prices are reduced for students (if you have a student card) the costs will add up. I would go online and find out where you want to stay, how much it costs, and how much the different sights cost to see, then add it up. Then calculate a reasonable amount for food and an emergency fund. Surely you will want to eat something besides bread and cheese while you are there?
