I plan to go to Europe at the end of my senior year which is in 2012. Now I need to know how much I should bring in order to do the following:
- I plan to vist Ireland, Italy, France, Greece, Romania, Germany and Sweden.
- I dont plan to eat out very much, maybe In Italy.
- Maybe go to the bars, if 18 is the drinking age.
- Shop but not in designer stores.
- Hostels for boarding and my one of the two friends that Im going with has an aunt in Germany.
- Public transportation mainly.
i dont know what else but that seems to be the main stuff. Suggest more. Also does the eurorail have like a month pass. meaning you dont have to pay for each passage just pay a preset amount and you get to ride the train for a month. I was thinking 5000 for the whole monthHow much money would you bring to Europe for a month?
At this time many people travel in Europe for about $100 per day, that is US, Can or AU.
This will cover a hostel and food and maybe a bit of sight seeing and a moderate amount of eating out.
Of course, when you stay at the aunts you will spend less, but you will also have days you need more.
Do keep track of exchange rates and prices, it is not the tax that makes Europe expensive, it is the total price, which does include tax, but often is already high before the tax is added.
With a rail pass you pay once for the whole time it is valid, but there is a catch. For many of the trains you need to pay for a reservation or surcharge. This runs from a few euro to much more on some trains. The can be avoided by not traveling overnight and by not taking the fast trains, but that will make your travel plans impossible.
Better get the information before you travel and see which trains are worth the extra money and which are not. Often when one of the fast trains only has those expensive reservations, an other on the same day or the next will be much cheaper.
And instead of a couchette (bunk) for 45 euro you might sit through the night for just 5 euro.
5000 $US seems reasonable, but it depends on how much you pay for your flights and how the exchange rate will be when you travel.
Try not to do too much, Ireland, Greece and Sweden in one holiday is likely not going to work out, specially if you also want to spend time in the countries in between.
Count 4 days per country at least, and a week per country if they take a long travel by train or ferry.
If you really want to go to those countries you should consider flights, but unless you book three months ahead, you will have to pay a lot. And when you do book them you do not have any flexibility.
A site that might help you with your train journeys is Seat 61:
http://www.seat61.com/
There is a page on rail passes, several with 'how to get to.... from England' and a lot of general rail information.
Just use your ATM card, it is easier and better.
There are machines all over, and talk to your bank
to find out which way is the best to avoid excess fees. How much money would you bring to Europe for a month?
in most places in europa it has relly high vat. ca 20% each buy...so it will be really much on one month... i would take ca. 7500 dollars whit me. that is 5.316 euro. And no you dont need to pay every time you reach a new country you just need a pass... :)
